DRT Transportation Sponsors 2019 Responsible Care® & Sustainability Conference & Expo

Lebanon, Penn.: DRT Transportation, an asset-owning intermodal marketing company and third-party logistics provider, will be sponsoring the American Chemistry Council’s 2019 Responsible Care®& Sustainability Conference & Expo in Fort Lauderdale, Florida from Sunday, April 14 – Wednesday, April 17, 2019. DRT Transportation first became a Responsible Care Partner in 2017, and this year will be the first time they will be an event sponsor.

“We’re really excited to deepen our involvement with the Responsible Care program,” said President of DRT Transportation, Rob Kemp. “We’ve learned a tremendous amount about the impact our business can have on the world around us through our involvement with the Responsible Care program and are proud to be able to sponsor such a great event.”

Kemp first heard of the Responsible Care initiative in 2016, when a client asked if DRT was a partner. After doing some research, Kemp wanted to get involved. What he didn’t realize was how drastically DRT’s involvement in the Responsible Care initiative would transform DRT’s business as a whole.

“As we started developing and documenting processes and policies to align with the Responsible Care guiding principles, we brought that same procedural discipline and rigor to other areas of our business. Because we now have thorough processes, we can practice more responsible logistics not only for our chemical and HAZMAT clients but for all of our customers,” Kemp said.

In addition to the Process Safety, Product Safety and Security Codes required by the Responsible Care program, DRT implemented a Carrier Qualification Program and Dispatch Procedures to complement and enhance their existing Responsible Care work.

“Being part of Responsible Care has opened our eyes to how important health, safety, security, and the environment are,” said DRT Compliance Manager, Alicia Collins. “We’ve learned a lot about our company and have made positive process changes to protect not only our employees but also our customers, carriers and the public in general,” Collins said.

In addition to being an event sponsor, DRT will also be exhibiting at the conference. Kemp, Collins and DRT’s Vice President of National Accounts, Terry Roberts, will be set up at booth 18 at the 2019 Responsible Care®& Sustainability Conference & Expo.

DRT Transportation Hires Industry Veteran, Rob Gale, To Lead Intermodal

With Gale’s arrival, DRT adds over 20 years of intermodal experience to their team.

Lebanon, Penn: DRT Transportation, a third-party logistics (3PL) provider, announced the hire of Rob Gale, a 25-year logistics industry veteran, as the new Vice president of Intermodal. Gale started in the Eagan, Minnesota office on Jan. 2 and his leadership will allow DRT to further develop and scale their intermodal operations nationwide. He will also play a key role in DRT’s aggressive growth and expansion in the central and western parts of the United States.

“DRT’s intermodal division has been steadily growing naturally over the past year and adding Rob to the team continues our focus on and investment in growing the intermodal program,” said President of DRT Transportation, Rob Kemp. “With Rob’s leadership in our Minnesota office, we have a huge opportunity for intermodal to flourish,” said Kemp.

Before joining the DRT team, Gale built his career as Vice President of Dart Advantage Logistics and Vice President of Intermodal at the Dart Network. Before that, he served a four-year stint in transportation sales for C.H. Robinson.

“DRT is nimble — when someone has a good idea, the team rolls with it — which allows DRT to adapt and grow with the market in ways that more established 3PL’s can’t,” said Gale.

A lifelong Minnesotan, Gale grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota and attended the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. He currently resides with his wife and two sons in Lakeville, Minnesota. In his spare time, Gale enjoys watching his son’s hockey and lacrosse games, golfing and visiting Minnesota’s northern lakes.

DRT unveils new brand message with focus on the power of people

(Lebanon, Penn.) July 25, 2018 – Today, DRT Transportation turned a corner. At noon, all employees in all four offices across the United States stopped what they were doing and listened together as DRT CEO, Rob Kemp, outlined the past, present and future of the company. Generally, in corporate America, when these events take place, the talk is of margins and revenue, goals and objectives and market share. In this, the topic of conversation was the people of DRT Transportation.

Employees in DRT’s Kingsport, Tennessee office pose in front of the new mission statement.

Kemp spoke about DRT’s humble beginnings. He described the company’s founding in a 200 square foot room, and went on to recap DRT’s growth over the last 11 years to nearly 50 employees across four offices nationwide.

“At the end of the day, growth is hard,” said Kemp. “We should be proud of how we’ve grown over the past 11 years,” Kemp continued.

DRT’s rapid growth has been astounding, but Kemp and the DRT team are ready to keep pushing and expanding. Throughout his address to employees, Kemp outlined some of the changes employees would be seeing over the next few months, including the new logo, tagline and increased social media activity from DRT. However, the biggest change throughout this process is the rollout of a new company mission and employee rally cry, which calls employees to be agents of change in the logistics industry, in the DRT organization and in their interactions with customers on a daily basis.

The St. Paul office gathers in front of the new rally cry after it was unveiled by Kemp.

In addition to the new brand elements, DRT also rolled out an employee recognition program for the first time in the company’s history. The Dedicated Reliable Teammate Program is meant to bring attention back to the people who are crucial to the logistics industry, and incite excitement and hard work among the employees. A winner will be chosen once a month from a survey that both DRT employees and external clients can access and fill out. This program aims at bringing the four offices closer together while recognizing employees for their constant hard work. Kemp also mentioned an increased presence on social media, in an effort to connect with the public.

DRT employees gathered around noon to hear CEO, Rob Kemp, unveil the new DRT tagline, “People have more power than logistics.”

A second group of employees gather in front of the headquarters mission statement in Lebanon, PA.

“Change is great. It can be hard, but it can be fun,” said Kemp.

The result of all these changes, big and small, will be a refined way of doing business. DRT’s people will be tuned into the needs and requirements of the customers. All the big data, technology systems and computers will play their parts in the background as DRT turns a human face toward partners, vendors and customers. As Lebanon employee Eddie Bailes put it: “We’ll still take care of your freight, but we’ll take care of you as well.”
